The 1916 rebellion will be celebrated across Ireland but there is a dark secret that Ireland's rulers want to hide: at the heart of the rebellion was a revolutionary socialist who wanted to overthrow capitalism.
James Connolly had no time for tyrants, bankers and
capitalists.
On the masthead of one of his first papers, he wrote: The Great only appear Great because we are on our knees: Let us arise.
He warned against an Ireland where the post boxes were painted green but where people were robbed for profit. His fight was not just against
'oppression of the peculiarly British kind'
but against all Empires.
The sight, therefore, of an Irish government honouring his name while backing the US war on Iraq would have sickened him.
His radical message was against a 'union of classes' and coalitions with right wing parties.
Dr. Kostik's speaking tour honours James Connolly and his involvement in the 1916 rebellion by looking at what he stood for and its relevance for today.
James Connolly Quote:-
The socialists of Ireland know well that they can expect no help from the bigots of either Green or Orange persuasion, and while ever insisting upon the rights of Ireland to control its own destinies, they allow precedence in their thoughts and plans to no interest but one, that of the working class
