RAYMOND DEANE & JOSHUA CASTEEL IN GALWAY

Raymond Deane, national executive member of the Ireland/Palestine Solidarity Campaign, will join Joshua Casteel, former U.S. interrogator in Abu Ghraib prison, to address this free public meeting in Galway.
Pictures of torture and murder at Abu Ghraib shocked the world. Now people will have the opportunity to hear Casteel speak out about the abuse in that prison and how he was so sickened that he left the army as a conscientious objector and became involved with Iraq Veterans Against War.
Also, by public demand at the outrage of Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, Raymond Deane will now join Casteel, to give a briefing on the crisis in the Middle East.
Israel is the most heavily armed state, and the only nuclear armed state in the Middle East. It is the biggest recipient of U.S. military aid, the only country in the world that can buy directly from U.S. arms corporations without the oversight of the U.S. government, or allowed to use that aid to purchase from non-U.S. firms.
Israel’s current offensive is against the democratically elected government of Lebanon and further attempts to crush the Palestinian people. Israeli forces have also abducted 14 members of the Palestinian authority. The Israeli state is acting with the explicit endorsement of the Bush/Blair administrations and both in timing and scale the assaults are connected to wider conflicts, particularly the failed occupation of Iraq.
GAAW demands an end to this escalating cycle of violence, the cessation of attacks on Lebanon, an end to the occupation of Iraq, and justice for Palestine.
