Protest Galway Corporations Draconian ByeLaws, 8th Sept.


A protest is to be held on the 8th of September at 6pm outside City Hall to protest Galway Corporations proposed draconian byelaws. These laws will restrict assembly, and other activity such as swimming, Kite-Flying, sports, busking, and ban leafletting. (See thread http://irishantiwar.org/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=0001QA&topic_id=1 for more information).

These laws are opposed by the Galway Alliance Against War and the Irish Council of Civil Liberties, as well as the following groups and individuals

Groups:  Galway Environmental Alliance, Galway for a Safe Environment, Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign,  Galway Cycling Campaign, Galway People's Resource Centre, Women in Media and Entertainment,  The Western Writers Centre (Galway), Cairde na Gaillimhe, Galway Anti-Capitalist Movement,

Parties: The Labour Party, the Green Party, the Socialist Workers Party, Sinn Fein, Workers Power.

Trade Union: Mandate (Galway)

Individuals: Denis Halliday (former UN Assistant Secretary General), Dr. Joshua Castellino (Lecturer, NUI, Galway, Irish Centre for Human Rights), Jim Cotter (President, Galway Council of Trade Unions),  Martin Ward (Mayor of Tuam) John Behan (Sculptor and Art Teacher),  John Arden (Writer), Kevin Higgins (Poet), Des Bonass (Dublin Council of Trade Unions).
