Denis Halliday with the rank of United Nations
Assistant Secretary-General, and at that time UN

34 year career in order to be free to speak publicly
on the genocidal impact of UN economic sanctions on
the people of Iraq, imposed in 1990 and retained in
full knowledge of the human cost since then by the
member states of the UN Security Council. In the year
2000, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and
in 2003, he was given the Gandhi International Peace
Prize in London.

Sharon Shannon comes from Clare on the West coast of
Ireland, an area historically steeped in music. She
began her solo recording career in l989. By l99l
Sharon had completed a solo album, which included
tracks from Stephen Cooney and Hot House Flowers' Liam
O'Maonlai. This album secured a place in the history
books by becoming the most successful Irish
traditional music album ever released. The Late Late
Show tribute to Sharon made her a household name.
Sharon has released a further five albums and over the
past few years has toured extensively in the U.S. and
Europe, also visiting Australia, New Zealand and Hong
Kong and Japan.

Caoimhe Butterly was born in Ireland but grew up in
Canada, Mauritius and Zimbabwe. She spent time working
with the New York Catholic Worker before moving to
Latin America where she spent three years living with
indigenous communities in Guatemala and in Chiapas,
Mexico. She spent a year living in the Jenin refugee
camp on the West Bank. She has visited Iraq on
numerous occasions, the most recent being the
seven-month period following the war.

Brendan Forde is a Franciscan priest who has spent the
past thirty years working in Colombia, El Salvador,
Guatemala and also Chile from which he was expelled.
In 2000 the Community of San Jose de Apartado, where
