Beating Around the Bush in Westport-Sun.June 20@8pm
Beating Around the Bush
Westport Against War are hosting a music and film night at 8pm on Sunday, June 20th upstairs in Blouser's, James St., Westport as a home-grown version of the 'When Bush Comes to Shove' concert in the Point.
A host of local talent will perform anti-war songs on the night, including Joanne Keegan, Derek McGowan, Niall McCabe, Johnny Fadgin, 'The Lost Chords', Loretta Hoban, Frank O'Reilly and many more. There will also be a special screening of the film "Breaking the Bank", a documentary based on a protest in Washington D.C. that explores the role of the World Bank and the IMF in promoting the spread of war.
The aim of the event is to focus opposition in Ireland to the forthcoming visit on the 25th of June of President Bush to the EU/US summit. The Irish Anti-War Movement are calling on the Government to convey the disgust of the Irish people at the ongoing misery in Iraq by withdrawing the invitation to President Bush and ending the use of Shannon by US military aircraft. There will be a national protest in Dublin on the 25th June and buses will be travelling from Westport to this. (Anyone interested in bus tickets please contact Michele on 098-42868 or Christel on 086-3647905, or talk to us on the night.)
Admission to the gig is free, but all donations will be gratefully received. Doors open at 8pm., with the film starting at 8.15 followed by the music.
The next meeting of Westport Against War is at 8.30 on Tuesday, June 22nd in Blouser's, James St., Westport, and everyone is welcome.
