american in bush country
I live in a fairly rural area in the U.S.. This area has gone mad with support of the ""good" and "just" War on Terrorism". American flags and patriotic dribble are plastered on most every house or building. "United we stand" is on every reader-board from "Dunkin Donuts" to the elementary schools. In this land of the "free" and home of the "brave", people do not tolerate protesters, rabblerousers or anything of the like. On a weekly basis at demonstrations, we are told alternately to "go home" or "If you love them so much, why don't you live there?" Theirs is not to question. Protesters by simply being present and visible, are a bother to one's conscience. If what war protesters are saying is true then their dollars are killing babies in Iraq, Afghanistan, and countless other countries that the U.S has "aided" to thwart democracy and freedom.
They do not question the inconsistancies of the media or the politicians. They do not question, American Foreign Policy. In fact, most have the absurd opinion that the U.S. is some sort of global philanthropic guru. So you can see why someone holding a sign saying "war is not healthy for children or living things" could stir up something in the masses. If what we say is true, they have been aparty to terrorism on a mass scale.
