Response to What does Anti-War mean?

Totally agree that war is sometimes neccessary, guys. There's been some crazy distortion of the facts, and some ridiculous hypotheses bandied around here. WWII was fought because the British crapped themselves at the thought of Hitler takin them over. They were also scared about him takin over the rest of europe and establishing the biggest empire in the world right on our doorstep, run by a madman. So what? I'd do the same. I'd have fought him meslef if I was alive. To say that the British government fooled a nation into thinking they were fighting for freedom, is implying that you are more intelligent than anyone who backed the war at the time, becase you couldn't be fooled. Well, bully for you, but it's dispespectful to those who died, and it's the kind of arrogance that w're used to hearing from Trinity arts students, and which puts people off your movement. As for the Balkans. We can argue about the motives of the USA and the UK, but I'm pretty sure their economies would have survived with Kosovo in a shambles. They soured relations with russia, and they alienated members of the UN for a long time as a result of just talking about this conflict. This was not economically healthy. The reality is that it was a combination of military power and people power which overthrew milosevic. However, in my humble opinion, it was military power which allowed the poeple to rise up. As for claiming that the people would have overthrown Milosevic were it not for bombs raining on him. This is a ludicrous assertion, with no basis in fact. There were some demos, and there were some very very brave rebels, but there was no indication that they were about to take over. The bottom line is that the balkans are in much better shape now than they were when milosevic was around. It;s still a region in trouble, but that's inevitable after the events.. I think war is justified in some cases. To be completely and utterly anti-war is, im my opinion, to be naive. I admire pacifism, but sometimes it's not appropriate.
