Access to clean water is a basic human right!

What: We are organising a National Day of Action to highlight the discriminatory water policies of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

When: SATURDAY 31ST JULY (However any Groups involved in festivals throughout the summer months can replicate the action below and highlight this important issue).

Where: We are hoping to replicate the action all around the country.

Why: Access to clean water is a basic human right, yet in the OPT:
- 180-200,000 West Bank Palestinians have no access to running water
- 90-95% of the only water resource in Gaza is unfit for human consumption
- 1/3 of available water lost through leakage
- 80% of groundwater is used by Israel

How: Action:

Described by the Palestinian Association for the Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) as "a ground-breaking initiative", this pledge has hitherto been signed by over 130 Irish creative and performing artists: novelists, playwrights, poets, actors, classical composers, singers, songwriters, dancers, painters, sculptors and filmmakers:

"In response to the call from Palestinian civil society for a cultural boycott of Israel, we pledge not to avail of any invitation to perform or exhibit in Israel, nor to accept any funding from any institution linked to the government of Israel, until such time as Israel complies with international law and universal principles of human rights."

It will be launched by IPSC Cultural Boycott Officer Raymond Deane, himself a composer, in the presence of several signatories.

IAWM BBC Studios Belfast: Demonstration/Protest against BBC/Panorama Bus

Friday 20th August 2010: 6pm-7pm + travel time from Dublin

Irish Anti-War Movement is looking at the possibility of arranging a bus from Dublin city to BBC in Belfast and back, to demonstrate/protest against the airing of the outrageously pro-Israeli Panorama documentary "Death in the Med". The documentary tried to justify the murder of the 9 peace activists on board the Marvi Marmara on the 31st May 2010.

If you are as outraged as many of us in Irish Anti-War Movement and if we can get approximately 50 people to sign up for this protest, we can book the bus at a cost of €10 per person.

Obviously we need to take travel time into account for getting up and back to the protest.

Please sign up if you are interested and most importantly please share this facebook event to your profile.
