Shannonwatch Vigil Sunday 12 June
14:00 - 15:00 Shannon - in front of airport entrance

In the last week there have been new wikileaks revelations about how worried Irish government ministers were about renditions through Shannon. Their concerns were not about the cruel and inhuman treatment of prisoners illegally captured. Nor did they seem to care about breaches of international - and national - law. No, they were worried about the damage that the truth would cause to their political careers.
Their concern for international law should have gone even further than the rendition flights we all know went through Shannon. It should have included laws covering war crimes committed by occupying U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan - the same forces that were passing through Shannon. It should also have concerned laws of neutrality that were being broken at Shannon every day of the week.
The current Fine Gael/Labour government needs to be reminded that they should immediately end these breaches of international law. Shannon has played its part in too much suffering and death already.
Demand political leadership in Ireland and an end to U.S. military/CIA use of Shannon!
