12/11/2008 - 20:00

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign invites you to a public talk by Sahar Francis at the Absolute Hotel, Limerick City on Wednesday 12th November at 8pm.

Sahar is the director of Addameer (Arabic for "conscience"), a human rights organisation based in the Occupied Palestinian Territories who campaign for the rights of prisoners. A Palestinian-Israeli lawyer and human rights advocate, Sahar has extensive experience of working directly in support of the victims of human rights abuses in the West Bank.

Addameer are currently launching a major campaign on the Israeli policy of administrative detention (internment without charge or trial). Over 800 Palestinians, including children, are currently being held by the Israeli authorities in internment, some since 2002.

Addameer believe in creating a free and democratic society, and work in cooperation with other groups (including Amnesty International), aiming to ensure that prisoners are treated justly and with dignity. The talk will be an informative, first hand account of the key human rights issues in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
